古靈精怪的美莉娜與疼愛她的外祖父母住在伊斯法罕，已離婚又各自擁有新家庭的爸媽，總像皮球般地將她踢來踢去。美莉娜一心想搬去德黑蘭與媽媽同住，陰晴不定的爸爸和繼父卻總是從中阻撓。在九歲生日即將到來這天，她打算上法院選擇自己的監護權！然而隨著事情進展，美莉娜發現成人世界的複雜現實，讓她的計畫困難重重。
以離異家庭的兒童監護權為主題，但不同於在法庭上演的親權爭奪戰，伊朗導演歷經兩年拍攝，以孩童視角出發，貼身記錄外甥女的生命故事，結合女孩的影像日記與生活點滴：在車內與媽媽爭吵、電話中惹怒爸爸，還有幫外公擦指甲油的親密時刻⋯⋯，呈現出傳統伊朗兒童電影外的嶄新當代觀點，更一窺性別不對等的社會結構下，不同價值的衝突與司法制度的樣貌。
In Esfahan, Iran, nine-year-old Melina lives with her grandparents after her parents' divorce. She longs to live with her mother, but both her father and stepfather oppose this. Her mother also struggles to balance her marriage with their relationship. Now old enough to take her custody case to court, Melina hopes to choose her own guardian, but she is unaware of the complexities of the adult world and its challenges.
